Born in Texarkana, TX and raised across Oklahoma, Merrick Sloane (they/them) is a neuro-Queer 90’s kid and nonbinary writer, editor, researcher, and educator. They earned their AAS in Interpreting American Sign Language at Oklahoma State University-OKC, their BA in Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at University of Central Oklahoma, and their MFA in Creative Writing at University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Most recently, Merrick was a winner of the 2025 AWP Intro Journal Awards for poetry. They work as Associate Poetry Editor at Doubleback Review, a subsidiary of Sundress Publications and as Managing Editor of The Wardrobe, a feature series that prioritizes women, trans/nb, and genderqueer writers exclusively. Merrick is a two-time DreamYard Rad(ical) Poetry Consortium fellow and has also received support from Poets House and Sundress Publication’s Trans and Nonbinary Writer’s Retreat. Merrick’s work has appeared or is forthcoming in The Central Dissent: A Journal of Gender and Sexuality, Stories for the Road: Trauma and Internal Communication, BLEACH!, The Garden Party Collective, Puerto del Sol, and elsewhere. Merrick is deeply committed to liberation for all minoritized and oppressed communities and hopes to see a more radically loving world for all.
